What’s better than an almond-milk misto or matcha tea latte? How about a decadent gluten-free, dark chocolate brownie or a chocolate-chip salted cookie to go-with? It’s no wonder Culprit Coffee has earned a cult-like-following (including Paleo fans) as finally, we can get a decent scone (Earl Grey infused) or muffin without the extra sugar, dairy or gluten. Made in house using organic and quality ingredients, these treats are a bit pricier than most, but I’m okay with that. Thankfully they sometimes have day-olds at a reduced rate; the key is getting there before they’re gone.

The friendly indie café at West 4th and Vine Street is always bustling with locals, and the yellow-brick exterior with its cartoon raccoon mural is as Instagram-worthy as the nearby cherry blossoms. Grab a Paleo latte to go (yep, that’s a thing) and explore the blooming trees along West 5th and 6th, Cypress, and Yew. You’ll also find pink blossoms dotted around Kits Beach, Kits Point and Vanier Park.

Their aptly named Culprit Cookie (as in, we know where to attribute blame for any sudden bouts of weight gain) features a salty-sweet mixture of sunflower seeds, chocolate chips and decaf espresso, topped with plain ruffled potato chips and a pretzel. While their salted chocolate chip cookie is also delicious, I can never say no to the signature Culprit Cookie once I’ve laid eyes on it. Chewy, crispy, salty and fun, this is one twist on the classic that’s sure to satisfy any and all cravings.
