Meet the owner

Kae and Patrick Sheppard can’t say enough about Steveston’s Little Mexico Cantina (LMC). The couple re-discovered the hidden little gem in July 2014 and were pleasantly surprised by how “absolutely fantastic both the service and cuisine was.”

“We went there a few months before and the food was OK but not great,” says Kae, who adds they eat there at least once a week. “When we heard that Carol (Janeczko) had taken it over we were thrilled at the changes. There is a wonderful synergy between Carol and Roberto (executive chef Roberto Lopez Lara). They have a shared vision of what the food should be.”

Patrick went on to say: “You feel like you are on a culinary safari through different regions of Mexico. The food is delicious, genuine and healthy.”

Hola! Little Mexico Cantina changed ownership in 2014 and has been cleaning up in the awards department ever since. In 2015 the restaurant took first place in the Best Ceviche and Best Taco challenge. Dishes have been chosen to expose clients to a little taste of what Mexicans really eat. A seaside treat is the Ensenada style fish taco featuring grilled red snapper with house seasoning. The beef barbacoa taco is another winner. You will want to return often to taste your way through the menu.

Authentic Mexican cuisine has arrived in Richmond. With the sharing and build-your-own aspect of tacos and fajitas, making a meal that suits both vegetarian and omnivore diets has never been easier. With so many veggies used in their meals and recipes, the vegetarian combinations for wraps, chimichangas, tostadas and almost everything else on the menu make each visit a unique experience. And, for dessert, you can’t go wrong with a deep fried Mars bar.
