Raised and homeschooled on a farm in the British Columbia Interior, Davy Bisaro has travelled and studied far and wide to get to where she is now. Once a hairstylist in England and later a dancer in Chicago, Davy is now located in Toronto and is the proud owner of a thriving fitness centre called Damask Studio.
Davy studied in Oxford before pursuing a degree in dance at Vancouver, which she followed up with a stint living and dancing in Chicago. While there, Davy began teaching yoga for free as a way to share the practice that she had fallen in love with in her early '20s. Her teaching career blossomed in Toronto. When two of the main studios she taught at decided to close their doors, Davy and her loyal students had nowhere to go, so she built them a home.
In June of 2012, Davy opened Damask Studio in a cozy lower-level space on Dundas West Avenue, with a generous offering of yoga, Pilates, dance-fit, interval and personal training, boot camp and restorative yoga classes. “I wanted to create a space that was comfortable and holistic for people’s bodies and minds,” she explains. “This is not just a yoga studio and not just a fitness studio, but both, so that we can encourage people who don’t do yoga to get on the mat, and vice versa, to help get people out of their fitness bubble and to explore other forms of movement.”
