Construction of the first permanent Catholic church in Baie-Comeau, Ste Amelie, have started in 1937 and were completed during World War II church. The Church of St. Amelia is named in honor of the wife of Colonel Robert McCormick founder of the city of Baie-Comeau and sponsor of the work for the construction of the church.
