Meet the owner

“My grandma decided she wanted to open another restaurant and found this place,” says Chelsea-Ann Sperti, SerendipiTea’s resident tea expert. “She invited the family to come and check it out and I fell in love with the place as soon as I walked in the doors. I started immersing myself in the world of tea almost right away.”

Chelsea-Ann says she was not much of a tea drinker before her grandma brought her to the tea house that day, but now she’s the resident expert and loves to experiment. On top of the hundreds of teas imported from around the world, Chelsea-Ann has also been making her own blends exclusive to SerendipiTea. “I love to fool around with tea blends and make different kinds,” she says. “It fits with the kinds of teas we stock, which isn’t like other tea houses. We also bring in flavours our customers will like, and we love introducing teas that no other tea house is carrying.”

Surprised

I was surprised at how delightful the atmosphere was, very bright but not too open (which is nice.) Lovely decor and tables, music was right up my alley. I was welcomed quickly and offered tea which I never had this time but still enjoyed the tea experience with my lunch which was soup of the day (and today's soup was sweet potato) I found a taste familiar and asked what it was and got the reply it was cardamon spice among others. Very pleasant. If you're looking for a huge meal this wouldn't be the place to go but great for brunch and light eaters like myself. I shall be back again time after time I'm sure.

Wonderful Place for Lunch

I go on a regular basis to Laurium and all the staff are wonderful to talk to. Food is brought in a relaxing manor and very delicious, love the homemade soup. It is the perfect size place for a quiet lunch with friends.

A bit disappointed.

We had to wait over 1/2 hr for a table but it is a small place and it was busy so we were ok with that. Once seated the server took our order almost immediately. We were quite hungry due to the wait and my dad who is diabetic was famished. The tea that was recomended was extremely weak even though the sever said it was the stronger of the orange pekoe family. I like weak tea and I even found it weak. We waited to see if it would get any stronger but it did not. When we inquired about it being the stronger of the pekoe's the server said "no, I told you..." in a very defensive manner which surprised us. So whatever... The food was fresh but skimpy. We really enjoyed the homemade soup and the strawberry salad was exceptional! The fillings of the sandwiches were pretty bland but the bread was super fresh. Overall the attitude of the owner was the most disappointing thing. It was busy and the place is small but I would think this would make the owner happy not frustrated. They could easily have used another staff person making sandwiches. We had a WagJag that we had bought previously and instead of tea my husband ordered a soda. They are the same price on the menu but the owner insisted we pay for the soda because.."no substitutions". She was very...think - Soup Nazi... Overall, the place looks nice but is very deceiving. We will not return due to feeling very unwelcome by the owner.

Good morning, I just read your review on the Lauriam Tea house. I'm sad to hear that you had a disappointing experience at the restaurant. My grandmother and I just took over the place and gave it a new name, SerendipiTea. We're wondering if you would be willing to come back and try again. We've changed a few things, added breakfast on the menu. Hopefully, we can give you a better experience. Thank you.

A Charming Lunch

I went into this charming Tea House based on the recomendations from this web site. I was not disapointed. It was a full house when i arrived, so i sat at one of the little cafe tables outside, it was perfect for a quiet solo lunch. The waitress was very pleasent, which made up for the short wait time. I ordered Organic Pomegrant and Lemon tea, along with a cucumber and alphalpha sprout sandwich on FRESH french bread with cream cheese and the house favorite strawberry salade. The Tea was just what i was looking for on a summer afternoon - light fruity, and playful. My sandwich surpassed my expectations, the bread was so fresh and soft, it practicall melted with the creamy smooth cream cheese. The cucumber and alphalpha sprouts added just the right crunch and fresh garden taste to the sandwich. My salade was just as wonderful, a prefect combinations of textures, sweet fresh strawberry and blueberries, crisp spring mix, crunchy candied peacans, and a sweet yet tangy poppy seed dressing(just the right amount too!). The only thing that i have to say that might have enhanced the salde, would be to add some creamy goat cheese, or perhaps tangy blue cheese. I will most definatley return for another lunch, this time i will bring the girls along for this hidden treasure right here in Bowmaville! Cheers, Little Miss Critic

Wow! Great find in Bowmanville!

We had a great lunch, our neighbours recommended this spot to take our friends visiting from England. It far exceeded our expectations, the atmosphere is nice & cozy, the staff were very personable and made us feel at home. The selection of tea is outstanding, I believe they have over 80 different teas from around the world. The homemade soup was amazing, all the food was nice and fresh. We were very impressed, definately would recommend this place. Thumbs up!!
