Have visited this restaurant two or three times, in 2006, and found the food and service to be excellent. (Hence the ratings of 5/10 for the food and service... it used to be good). Arrived at 3:30 on a Saturday with a friend (had raved to her about the food and the service) and were treated incredibly rudely by the wait staff. We walked in, the staff looked at us like we were lowlifes, asked us what we wanted, and we said "to eat" to which the staff replied "we are closed until dinner, and have one table left to be reserved if you are interested." Signage outside did not indicate a mid-day closing, the "open" sign was displayed, and there were patrons on the patio. We were treated like dirt for daring to step foot in the restaurant that by all appearances was open. I will never go there again.
We had had dinner, with another couple, at this bistro in June/06. The food, at that time, was amazing - everything we had was fresh, unique and perfectly flavoured e.g. mashed artichokes instead of potatoes. Apparently, the ownership has changed in recent months. At a recent Friday lunch, my Panini was made of regular sliced bread which was not grilled nor hot (but it was good quality whole grain bread) and the roasted vegetables within were outright chilled. I wondered if they had been frozen and thawed? The herb flavouring inside the Panini was peculiar. My friend's Crab Quesadilla was bland and she described the amount of filling as meagre. The salad was mediocre. We were there at 1pm and yet, they were already out of the soup special for the day. The coffee was poor-fair. I felt very disappointed and was sorry that I had raved about it to my friend - this had been a terrific place, a good competition to some of the winery restaurants in The Niagara area. Not any more.
Showed up without reservations on saturday and were seated promptly, enjoyed everything well enough with the exception of the ribs which were very fatty and very poorly seasoned
Long story short: - ridiculously slow service. (took over 1 hour for our orders). - Unattentive service (had to chase waitresses down for drinks / bill etc) - Sloppy order accuracy (screwed up several of the orders in our party). - We complained after our meal and nothing was done about it.
Smoked Duck w penne was more penne and little duck. Food was bland except for the swordfish which was served despite being rancid. Offered an alternative dish - but no discount offered. Attempted to charge 7% GST despite change to 6% in July???
