With a large party of 14 people we were not disappointed. Only one order came out wrong, and it was promptly replaced with a properly cooked steak. The veggies were all fresh and cooked perfectly. The presentation was beautiful. If you can get past the tacky decor, the food is well worth it. Good portions, and fairly priced.
Although I am a frequent diner of many high end restaurants, rarely do I feel the need to take the time to place a review on a restaurant, but this place is well worth it. Immediately when my spouse and I entered the restaurant we were greeted by the owner. This place is owned by a husband and wife team and them and their wonderful wait staff were attentive, informative and very obliging. Despite the fact that they were also attending to a wedding party, they made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. At the end of the meal, when I was too full to finish, the owner wanted to make sure that I was happy with the food, which was wonderful to say the least. Now the food... of course bread was served which was a medley of homemade breads that were still warm from the oven. They made sure the bread kept coming too! For appetizer my spouse and I had soup, french onion for myself and seafood chowder for my partner. Both came out quickly and were full of flavour (which contradicts other reviews of this place). Our meals came out at an appropriate time, allowing us to enjoy our appetizer without feeling rushed which is sometimes the case. We both ordered prime rib which was delicious. Served with a medley of fresh veggies which included bok choy, parsnips, carrots and a pear shaped, breaded serving of mashed potatoes, the meal was very fresh and cooked to perfection. Not only is the food delicious, with large portion sizes, but it also affordable and does not possess the ostentatious character of other high end places. While the decor may leave something to the imagination, the great food and welcoming nature makes this place a wonderful restaurant to visit time and time again.
We came for a Christmas party and had a selection of a few different appetizers, entrees and desserts. The service was very poor, waited over 30 minutes for our drinks, and had to ask for them repeatedly. Got there around 6 and dessert hadn't even been served by 9:30, so we ended up leaving. Overall not very happy with the service, the food was OK but not great.
I have been to this restaurant 3 times now, can't wait to go back, To start with the owner goes above and beyond the call of duty, The food is fantastic, The presentation of the food is like no other I have ever seen, the potatoes and vegetables are to die for, everything is fresh, Unfortunately I never have room for any of the wonderful deserts. I have sent several people here and next week I am returning with another large group of friends, and last but not least the prices are more reasonable than anywhere else Ive been. Great Food, Great Service, who could ask for anymore. Thanks!
We were served by a lovely older woman -her service and manner was excellent. The setting was pleasant, but the overall decor seems outdated and dark. The restaurant has a 1980's feel to it. As does much of the menu have that same 1980’s feel. Small tip: Fresh pears by the door, or a big bouquet of fresh flowers, would be better choices than a stack of hollow, artificial pears. The roast beef was good. The seafood (in our pasta dishes) had a distinct ‘fishy odour’ that was off-putting. That alone is inexcusable and it made us decide that we probably wouldn't return to this restaurant. Seafood should have no odour. It should be smelled before purchase, and then, stored correctly before use. The sauce in the pasta was far too strongly flavoured with an herb, perhaps basil. It unpleasantly detracted from the other delicate flavours. The salads were mediocre, both in taste and in their presentation. Plain lettuce was used - no variety of interesting baby greens as is more common now in good restaurants. The calamari should have been crispy, but it was only partly hot and crispy. Most of it was a quite soggy (and quite cool) when we got it because the dressing had been mixed into it in the kitchen. We’d rather have added our own dressing at the table. It was like eating soggy French fries. The taste of the calamari was good. The yeast rolls and the tea biscuits were all of the white variety (we were surprised to see no whole grains) and all of them seemed VERY heavy in their inside texture. They were somewhat dry, too – almost as if they'd been previously frozen and reheated. Our desserts were wonderful (we all had the frozen lemon) and the coffee was excellent - far better than in most restaurants. The piece of chocolate was wonderful! It’s a place with SO MUCH potential, yet we all thought that it needs some serious rethinking and reworking, and perhaps, some chef/manager visits to other far more updated menus/cooking methods at other top-quality restaurants in The GTA.
